Message from the Vice-Chancellor of the HKR – Håkan Pihl

Håkan Pihl, Vice Chancellor, Ph D, Associate Professor

At Kristianstad University we welcome this project.

First, neurodegenerative diseases (NDD) negatively affect a large and growing proportion of the population in Sweden and in many other nations. It is a severe challenge to the individuals that are directly affected, but also to their families, to local communities and to the whole society. The strategy of our university aims to increase our involvement and our contribution to society and therefore we are proud if we can contribute to this challenge, with our competences in healthcare and our long tradition of research-based higher education (our nursing education was established in 1893).

Second, projects that can contribute to global challenges such as NDD require collaborations over the boarders of disciplines, institutions, nations, and continents. As a university we want to increase our participation in such endeavors, as part of our strategy and mission. This project provides us with an opportunity to learn and to develop new important relations, it increases our future capacity to contribute to our society.
