This abstract book, published with Frontiers, one of the world’s largest and most reputed publishing companies, compiles all the abstracts presented by the nEUROcare team at the Dialogues in Neurodegenerative Disorders conference held in Slovenia June 2024. It serves as a comprehensive showcase of the progress, outcomes, and impactful contributions of the nEUROcare project.
The 2nd nEUROcare Conference was successfully held at the University of Colombo with leadership of the conference chair, Prof. Sudath Warnakulasuriya, bringing together a distinguished gathering of healthcare professionals, academics, researchers, and students from Sri Lanka and Europe. This landmark event provided a platform to showcase the advancements and outcomes of the nEUROcare project while addressing the challenges and opportunities in improving care for neurodegenerative disorders (NDDs) in Sri Lanka. Under the theme “Expanding the Horizons for Neurocare in Sri Lanka,” the conference attracted an impressive participation of approximately 500 healthcare professionals and students.
The nEUROCare project continues to make remarkable progress, bringing together all project members from both European and Sri Lankan partner universities for the final meeting held on the 25th November 2024 at the University of Colombo.
The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU). recently celebrated the opening of its new Erasmus+ Projects Office, a significant milestone in its efforts to strengthen international collaborations. The center, directed by Dr. Prasanna Herath, the nEUROcare project manager at KDU, is set to serve as a crucial hub for fostering partnerships with the European Union and other international academic institutions.
Ms. Elisabetta Necco from the European Union visited University of Ruhuna as a part of her field monitoring visit for the nEUROcare project. This visit was a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between European and Sri Lankan institutions aimed at enhancing capacity building and neurocare education in Sri Lanka.
The nEUROcare team of Ljubljana University organized a conference titled “Dialogues in Neurodegenerative Disorders” on 6th and 7th of June 2024 at the Hotel Grand Union Euro Stars, Ljubljana, Slovenia, dedicated to the advancement of care and research in neurodegenerative disorders Its ambition was to overview the novel approaches and progress, uniting the minds from neuroscience, neurology, healthcare, psychology, novel IT applications and family perspectives.
We were thrilled to host a heartwarming and inspiring painting workshop for people with dementia, run by Home of the Enderly Fužine, Ljubljana at the Dialogues in Neurodegenerative Disorders conference. This special event, part of the nEUROcare project, showcased our commitment to advancing care and support for individuals with neurodegenerative disorders.
The 5th workshop of the nEUROcare project was successfully held at the Raddisons Blu Hotel, Galle, Sri Lanka which was hosted by University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka.
Administrative officers including Vice-Chancellors of all the Sri Lankan partner universities, project implementation team members from all the Sri Lankan and foreign partner universities participated in the meeting.

Delivery of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) session under the nEUROcare project was held on 09th of November 2023 at University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. This was held in parallel to the International Ruhuna University Faculty of Allied Health Sciences Research Symposium 2023 (iRuFARS 2023) together with the pre-congress workshop the same conference.
