Message from the Vice-Chancellor, University of Peradeniya
Prof. M.D. Lamawansha
I want to thank everyone who was involved in the decision to include the University of Peradeniya in the consortium of nEUROcare, which is sponsored by the Erasmus + program of the European Union.
One of the most complex groups of medical illnesses, neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) place a heavy burden on society. The burden on Sri Lanka will grow as its population ages quickly relative to other South Asian nations, with dementia being the most prevalent NDD.
The complex physical, cognitive, and psychological needs of these patients present a challenge for health systems all over the world in providing this vulnerable population with comprehensive and high-quality care. Therefore, the nEUROcare project’s efforts to provide a thorough curriculum for training caregivers are appropriate.
The curriculum being designed benefits from the collaboration of multiple institutions from Sri Lanka and Europe from various and significant viewpoints. I had multiple opportunities to interact with every consortium member, and I am confident that they have what it takes to carry out the project’s goals.
My sincere compliments are due to the primary coordinator, project managers, and all project participants for this timely initiative.
My best wishes for successful outcome!
