The Dementia Plan 2025 – Norway

In Norway a huge study looking at the societal costs for 144 different illnesses have been published. Dementia is at the top of the list for public costs in Norway with a total of 3 000 000 000 Euro, which is twice as much as the second illness on the list. This is 10 % of the total health cost spending in Norway according to the Norwegian Health Directorate. The informal Dementia care is not a part of this cost.
The Norwegian government has issued the Dementia plan 2025, which is a governmental plan for a holistic approach to the service offers for persons with dementia in Norway. The government focuses on a quality element that the inhabitants with dementia will be discovered at the right time and given the appropriate individualised care. The overall goal is to make a more dementia inclusive society in Norway.
