Why is it important to understand implementation and evaluation?
As Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector grapples with the demands of a rapidly ageing population and the rising prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases, the need for healthcare professionals to be adept in implementing and evaluating change has never been more pressing. A series of studies and expert opinions have highlighted that while medical knowledge and technical skills remain paramount, the ability to effect change and critically assess its outcomes is crucial for the sustainable evolution of healthcare systems. A recent study looked at the factors of implementability of healthcare interventions, which includes five key concepts, namely, acceptability, fidelity, feasibility, scalability and sustainability. This is an important understanding, especially since reviews indicate that only a limited number of healthcare interventions continue beyond their initial implementation stage or are expanded to cater to various populations or environments1. It is not strange that the project consortium agreed that it was important to include a short course that focuses on teaching the pragmatic aspects of implementing change and the know-how to evaluate those changes for healthcare professionals. 1Klaic, M., Kapp, S., Hudson, P., Chapman, W., Denehy, L., Story, D., & Francis, J.
